Dam Short Film Festival

Boulder City, NV

February 8-11, 2007

Shana's film, "Slack Action," was playing at the Dam Short Film Festival, so of course Shana and I decided to take a little road trip. (I still have to get some pictures from Shana. Meanwhile, these will have to do...)

Sights from a little place called "Baker, CA"
Our halfway pit stop during our road trip

Our lunch stop, the Mad Greek The view from our room at the Hacienda Hotel & Casino
Not exactly our first choice for housing, but hey - it was free (the festival put us up there). Even though the smokey lobby made us feel a little sick the first day, we adjusted quickly. Every night we were at the slot machines right next to all the smoking old ladies (penny slots rule!).

(Yes, we did see the free Hoover Dam movie...)
The town of Boulder City
Boulder City is a small town (Shana and I pretty much knew our way around after our first day there), but the community seems to be very dedicated in supporting the arts. Unlike some film festivals, where most of the audience consists of other filmmakers, most of the audience here were locals. It was very fun!

A local arts & crafts shop
(Notice the sign... You know - cuz they sell leather...)
Heat kills!!!

Boulder Dam Hotel
(also the film festival hq - see the red carpet?!)
American Legion Hall (where the films were screened)

At the Treasured Times Teahouse
aka "The Most Expensive Tea & Snacks I've Ever Had"
We pretty much licked the plates clean, not only because the food was tasty (it was tasty!) - it cost so much, we couldn't bear the idea of wasting any of it ($7 muffins!!!).

Taking a walk along the path behind the hotel... We thought these mountain goats were fake... until they ran away!

Lake Mead (view from the hotel) Boulder City from afar... (also a view from the hotel)

Posing in front of New York - New York (in Las Vegas)
Our last full day there, we decided to take a trip to Vegas. Actually, our plan was to go see the Hoover Dam (we were inspired by the free movie), hence the dress for heavy winds. As soon as we got in the car, though, we changed our minds and headed to Vegas instead.

As you will notice, this is the only picture of us in Vegas with the sun out. That's because after we took this picture, Shana and I got sidetracked with the penny slot machines. When we finally emerged, it was night.
