I hadn't been back to Davis since I finished my undergrad there in 2001. This was also the first time I saw most of these people in person. Blast from the past!!!
Stephanie & Sue were my friends/roommates during my first three years at UC Davis. |

Sadie, Rajinder, Sue, Sarah Sadrian (Sorry girl, don't know your married name!!!), & Becky |

(a.k.a. "The Deathstar") In all seriousness, it's a pretty interesting building that was designed in the mid-1990s by famed architect Antoine Predock. |
|
An extremely familiar route, especially during my last two years here, when I lived straight down Third St. |
|
Basically, a grassy mall area right outside the MU ("Memorial Union" - UCD's student union) and the Bookstore. On a beautiful day, you'll find many students hanging out or napping in the Quad. Many events are also held here. But look at all the bikes...!!! |

Hart Hall is the Humanities HQ on campus. It houses the offices for African American and African Studies, American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicana/Chicano Studies, Native American Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. Needless to say, as a Women's Studies major (and Asian American Studies minor), I spent quite a bit of time here. |

This is where I worked during my last year at Davis. I was a "CRC" (computer resource(?) consultant) in the Meyer New Media Lab, which is a fancy term for "computer lab monitor." In the New Media Lab, I helped people out with various multimedia (meaning motion picture editing and digital imaging) software and hardware. It was the fancy computer lab that all the other CRC's wanted to work in. Employee of the Quarter, baby! TWO TIMES!!! |
Lots of nature surrounds Davis. As such, I made sure to keep my Claritin-D close by. |
I totally nerded it up and drove around town to visit all the places I lived in Davis. This is the dorm where I lived during my freshman year. Oh, the memories... |
|
We lived in a suite with 6 other girls (so, 8 total). Each suite had 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a living room area. Steph and I lived in 208, which is just above the entrance to Thoreau. Sue was actually our neighbor in 206. Yep... |
Hahaha! This was the day we hanged a cardboard cutout of Pamela Anderson, the 207 boys' prized possession. That's what they get for leaving their door unlocked! |
(a.k.a. "The Golden Girls Apartment") I don't know if the other girls had that nickname for this place (it was what my friend Huy christened it during a visit from Berkeley, which is about an hour west of Davis). Anyway, it is possibly the best apartment I will ever live in - very chichi yet affordable ($1300 for a 3 bdrm/2 bath apartment, with our own washer/dryer and a 1200sqft living room). When we (Sue, Steph, and I) lived there, the walls were pastel pink. Add to that the pastel and Southwest motif hand-me-down furniture Steph got from her parents, and it really did look like something out of Golden Girls. One of the little fence pieces in our veranda area conveniently broke off, so we were able to leave and enter through the back (which, since it faced the street, was actually the front). Anyway, after two years, they raised the rent on us (significantly), so we moved out. |
|
There were 5 of us living in that apartment, but we were the 4 that lived there the entire time we were there (we sort of had a revolving door with the 5th roommate position). Even though there were stressful moments, our time here was mostly fun. Other than playing dress up and decorating Christmas trees, we also enjoyed ourselves with such things as rowing in the little man-made lake in the back of the apartment complex, throwing parties, shooting little narrative movies whenever Sarah Sadrian came to visit with her camcorder (Sarah was the true filmmaker - I had barely cultivated any desire for filmmaking at that time)... |
One night, Sue, Steph, and I got bored, so we decided to shoot mini marshmallows (out of our mouths) at various targets around the kitchen. Unfortunately, Sue made the mistake of getting up to grab something... |
This is where I lived during my last two years at Davis (yes, I was on the five year plan, but not because I wasn't doing well academically (I was actually close to getting kicked out for having too many credits); I stayed the extra year to figure out what path I wanted to take after graduating - yay for affordable public schools!!! But I did complete 2 more minors during that time, so all was not wasted). Anyway, quite a fall from grace after Lakeshore, but I had fun nonetheless. I think I don't have too many pictures from my time here because I lived by myself (what am I going to do, take pictures of my feet or the TV?), but I still have some fond memories of the place. I literally lived just across the railroad tracks from Downtown Davis and the campus (which is like a 2 minute bike ride straight down 3rd St.), so there were some good times. |
After my visit to Davis, I also visited another college friend, Gloria, in Oakland. Had fun catching up, but no pictures from that visit (was only there the one night). Sorry Gloria! I promise I'll stay longer next time!
