For about two weeks, I traveled all over the East Coast... At least, it felt that way. My reason for going in the first place was for work. Since I was getting a paid trip to and from the East Coast, and I had some free time after my job was over (the one great thing about freelancing), I thought I might as well shell out a few more bucks and visit some old friends who had relocated out there, most of whom I haven't seen in a good while. And thus began Jean's 2008 East Coast Tour.

Caramel & Bear
Caramel is Shana's dog. Those of you who know me will know that I am very fond of this dog. Actually, most of Shana's friends are fond of this little furball of energy. If you ever visited Shana back in Los Angeles, you were sure to be jumped upon and licked to death by Caramel. But during this visit, I noticed that Caramel has calmed down a bit. No more jumping up and down and trying to nip at your fingers. According to Shana, having some play time with Bear (Shana's roommate's dog) had a little something to do with that.

Shana's a bona fide teacher now at Bear Lakes Middle School, yo!
Day Trip to Miami
Miami still thinks it's summer!!! Everywhere we went, people were walking around in swimming suits, tank tops, shorts, flip flops... I felt over-dressed in my short-sleeved shirt and capris. Note to Self: Make sure you pack a swimming suit and a sundress for your next trip to Miami.

Gianni Versace's old house
It has since become a hotel and a sort of tourist attraction.
Miami Beach's Art Deco Architecture
Due to time constraints, Shana and I decided to do a self-guided audio tour of South Beach. The most eye-catching thing about this area (besides the random overly tanned men walking around in Speedos) is the architecture. For over 30 years, the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) has been working to preserve all of these buildings unique to the Miami South Beach area.

Shana enjoying the tour... Or tired of all the walking. I can't really tell.

Miami Beach Post Office
I'm not really all that well read in architecture or Art Deco, so I'm a little hesitant to make any sort of comment regarding those subjects. According to the audio tour, however, this post office is an interesting example of Miami's Art Deco architecture.

And thus concludes my trip...
I'm lucky I even made it back okay. We kept getting delayed in Dallas/Ft. Worth because the plane was late, and we almost didn't make it out that night because a storm was starting to roll in. I don't think I've ever flown through a thunderstorm before... Oh well, I'm lucky I still made it back in one piece.
